If you are engaged to be married, you’ve probably wondered “Where shall I start?” You’re probably looking at websites, Pinterest, Facebook and blogs. There is tons of information out there. Maybe too much. It can get confusing.
Start, of course, with great wedding magazines like The Knot or Real Weddings. Real Weddings even has an app to help! You’ll see so much information on the web it can be overwhelming. Many surveys have shown that one of the primary things an engaged couple wish they had done but didn’t…was hire an event planner.
An event planner will usually know trustworthy venders and have great ideas to help. They can take care of all the details. You’ll be able to relax at your own wedding. What a concept!

Facebook comments and tweets first led us to watch the broadcast online.
It was clear to us that this was never intended to be an objective piece of journalism. I imagine, however, that the vast majority of the 20/20 audience does not see the distinction between objective journalism and entertainment journalism. So in the process of this production, an entire industry was besmirched. In the ‘old’ days, this was called “yellow journalism“. Today they call it reality TV. There is an old saying in broadcast “If it bleeds, it leads.” That is still true.
We have been producing shows in the wedding industry for over 13 years, and know hundreds of wedding professionals. And yes, we have met some of the unprofessional vendors as well. But there are far more of the former than the latter. Most are Individuals who have a passion for what they do. Individuals who could earn far more money doing something else but receive what we call ‘psychic” income. The non-monetary income they receive when they know in their hearts that they have done something special. That they have contributed to making a couple’s dream day a reality. And even though that phrase (making the dream a reality) is cliché and overused, it still true.
These wedding professionals live for the appreciative smiles and happy tears. They live for the knowledge that they did something special. They live for being part of the dream… again and again. And yes, they live for the thank-you notes, letters and phone calls. And of course, like everyone, they do enjoy whatever income they derive in the process. And like everyone else, they have a right to make a living.
In these past 13 years, we have had the opportunity of getting to know many of these wedding pros and becoming friends as well. The vast majority certainly does not gouge anyone. I can think of very few who went into the wedding business to make a fortune. The vast majority does weddings because they have a passion for it.
So, did 20/20 get it right or did they get it wrong? Wrong in the sense that they were unfair to all of the hardworking, professional, innocent wedding pros. But for their own intentions, they got it right. Getting attention is what this type of broadcast is designed to do. And it worked! Look how many of us are talking about it.
In today’s world, time and gasoline are much too valuable to waste! You will spend less time and see more vendors by attending multiple bridal shows than you could ever imagine seeing individually.
Visit several events and you will see that you start being drawn to particular styles. You’ll feel comfortable with certain vendors. It will make the decisions ahead so much simpler.
